NZ Women's squad named for Houston 7's USA tournament

New Zealand Women's Sevens Coach Sean Horan has today named his squad of 12 for the second leg of the first ever IRB Women's Sevens World Series, to be held in Houston, USA next month.

Six players from the first tournament in Dubai last year have retained their spots, while Horan has also opted for rugby experience with the inclusion of five 2012 Black Ferns following their end of year tour to England. They are Shakira Baker, Kelly Brazier, Kendra Cocksedge, Halie Hurring, and Selica Winiata.

Horan said he had been impressed with the level of competition among women at the Pub Charity National Sevens held in Queenstown last weekend. An outstanding tournament for Waikato's Honey Hireme saw her earn a first-time call-up to the national squad.... Read More

Countdown to South Africa's inaugural SARU Community Cup kick-off

SARU CEO Jurie Roux said on Wednesday that club rugby was on the brink on a new era as the one-month countdown began to kick off in the inaugural SARU Community Cup.

The country's best non-university clubs are hard at work preparing for the new 20-team tournament which kicks off on 16 February and culminates in a week of finals in George at Easter.

Canadian head coach Geraint John has announced his roster for the first two sevens tournaments of 2013 in Wellington, New Zealand and Las Vegas, USA.

Canada’s Senior Men’s Sevens Team currently holds the 11th position out of 18 nations in the HSBC Sevens World Series Standings after the Gold Coast, Dubai and Port Elizabeth legs to finish off 2012.

Junior Springbok 'Baby Boks' 2013 training squad named

South Africa Under-20 head coach Dawie Theron on Monday named 34 players for the latest training camp in preparation for the IRB Junior World Championships to be played in France in June 2013.

The Junior Springboks 'Baby Boks' will defend the title they won in South Africa in 2012.

The camp, to be held in Stellenbosch between 14 and 27 January 2013, will include trials and friendly matches against the Universities of the Western Cape (UWC), Stellenbosch (Maties) and Cape Town (Ikeys).... Read More

Pools announced for USA Women's Rugby Sevens in Houston, Texas

The IRB has announced the pools and match schedule for the eagerly anticipated second round of the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series, the USA Women's Rugby Sevens in Houston, USA.

Twelve international sides from six continents will compete at the BBVA Compass Stadium on 1-2 February, with tournament hosts USA facing a mouth-watering clash with staunch rivals Canada on day one.

The landmark event for USA Rugby will also offer Argentina, Japan and Trinidad and Tobago the chance to make their first appearances on the Series. They replace Spain, France and China from the opening round in Dubai in December 2012.... Read More

After the first three rounds of the HSBC Sevens World Series, we are now a third of the way through the season, and more than a third of the way towards deciding which three core teams will be involved in the promotion / relegation battle at the end of the season in London.

Fiji Sevens head coach, Alivereti Dere, has named two teams to participate in this weekend's Uprising Fiji International Sevens in Lautoka.

Twelve players have been selected for the New Zealand Emerging Sevens team which will take part in this weekend's Uprising 7s tournament in Fiji.

Chiefs Launch Samoan Appeal after deadly December Cyclone

With many of the Chiefs’ players closely linked to Samoa, the Chiefs’ family were keen to support the ravished country by launching an appeal for basic needs such as water, canned food and clothing.

During December 2012, parts of Samoa were decimated when a deadly Cyclone hit the country effecting nearly 4000 people and killing several.

Floods caused by Cyclone Evan washed away hundreds of homes, properties, churches and businesses. Uprising Fiji International 7's Tournament 2013 has concluded. View Results

The Uprising 7s tournament will be held at Lautoka’s Churchill Park from 18 to 19 January 2013

The Uprising International 7s tournament kicks off the 2013 local Sevens calendar, after the Fiji Rugby Union recently agreed to sanction the tournament after meeting with tournament organisers. This tournament always attracts National sides, Elite clubs and Super clubs.

In a meeting between FRU’s Chief Executive Manasa Baravilala and Uprising Resort owner Rene Munch and Uprising Resort Operations Manager James Pridgeon, they resolved pending requirements that the tournament organizers had to fulfill in order for FRU to sanction the tournament.

Manasa Baravilala was pleased that they had managed to resolve all outstanding matters. The New Zealand Rugby Union and the Australian Rugby Union would be advised on FRU’s endorsement and, the face to face meeting today with owner Rene Munch put to rest matters that has been outstanding for almost twelve months....
