Kerikeri High School Sevens Winners with Runners Up Okaihau College

Kerikeri High School's "Blue" team have won the 2013 Northland Intermediate Sevens Tournament, played today at Moerewa Rugby Club's Simson Park. The program was run by the Northland Rugby Union and proudly supported by Maggie Dixon Real Estate

Twelve teams competed in the Year 7 & 8 Sevens tournament, including Kawakawa, Okaihau College, Tauraroa, Huanui, Matihetihe, Pompallier, Mangawhai Beach, and five teams from Kerikeri High School.

Competition started in hot sunny conditions on a hard dry field, and, in classic Grand Final fashion, ended with two soaked teams juggling a slippery ball and splashing through muddy puddles in driving rain on a thoroughly sodden ground! Following is the draw and results (and photos below).

OKAIHAU COLLEGE: YEAR 8 RUGBY SEVENS NORTHLAND RUNNERS UP

Okaihau College Website - April 2013

On Wednesday 10th April Okaihau College was represented by a team of Year 8 boys at the Northland Rugby Intermediate Schools Sevens tournament at Simpson Park in Moerewa.

The team had prepared well and the first game was a one sided affair with our team winning 43 - 0 against Kerikeri Orange. The next game saw us win again against Pompallier College from Whangarei 24-5. This win progressed us to the Championship semi final against Tauraroa Area School. The team played well in a close game to again be victorious 15-12.

The Championship final was then against Kerikeri Blue. It was a hard fought game with the Okaihau Boys leading up until 3mins to go when during a heavy downpour an intercept try in the final few minutes meant a final score of 20-12 to Kerikeri. Coach Terry Robson was very proud of the boys who he said played hard and were very good representatives of Okaihau College. Well done boys.

Thanks also to Rangi Selwyn for managing the team and the parents who came along to watch. Team members were Mataroria Brown, Pono Cowan, Leon Harris, Dylan Haynes, Jackson Haynes, Liam McNally, Jonty Morgan, Joseph Ngere, Reuben Peri, Jake Pickery, Luke Rapihana-Macneil and Michael Selwyn.
